The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) Alexander Cummings in 2017 hired a US public relations firm known for promoting lesbians, gays, bisexual and Transgender (LGBT), spending nearly half a million United States dollars for image fixing.
According to the US Attorney General report to Congress prepared in accordance with the Foreign Assets Registration Act, Cummings paid $425,000.00 for the six month period ending March 31, 2017 to MWW Group, LLC for media relations, messaging, and relationship building services.
In 2012, the company implemented a media campaign on behalf of Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair, a former deputy commander of the US 82nd Airborne Division charged with forcible sodomy and sexual misconduct.
The firm launched a website with publicly available documents in favor of Sinclair to discredit the prosecutor and accuser.
In March 2014, MWW acquired Macias Media Group, a full-service marketing, public relations and corporate communications firm focused on connecting clients with the LGBT consumer space. As part of the transaction, MMG founder and president Stephen Macias joins MWW as senior vice president and LGBT lead, based in the firm’s Los Angeles and New York offices, according to Holmes Report.
MMG works with clients such as Here Media, which owns and operates LGBT brands including The Advocate, OUT, Here TV, Gay.com, Gay.net, SheWired.com, and HIV Plus; Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black; The Weinstein Company’s Radius for Concussion; Vertical Entertainment for GBF, the Vail International Film Festival; author and journalist Steven Petrow; The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles; Spruce; and United for Equality in Sports & Entertainment, a non-profit organization working to achieve equality in sport and entertainment for all LGBT athletes and artists.
Prior to founding MMG, Macias served eight years as executive vice president and general manager for Here Media and was the entertainment media director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
