Senators Delay Debate on Bill To Review NEC Authority

Senators Monday deferred discussion into a bill to clarify the power and authority of the National Elections Commission with respect to the qualification of political parties, organizations and independent candidates.
Plenary session of the senate constituted itself into committee to debate the bill but later settled for further scrutiny of the proposed Act by its Judiciary Committee.
The bill was submitted to the senate by senator Varney Sherman who argued that decision taken by NEC at the time of elections, declaring a winner shall be honored and that such winner shall sit and enjoys his benefits pending Supreme Court ruling if the decision is contested.
