The People’s Unification Party (PUP) has named Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, the presidential nominee of the ruling Unity Party as its standard bearer for the 2017 Presidential Election.
According to a PUP press statement issued in Monrovia Tuesday, the endorsement was made July 3, 2017, which marks the start of the two-day extra-ordinary convention being held at the Bentol Administrative building in Montserrado County.
Making the announcement, in Bentol City, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the People’s Unification Party, Senator Henry Yallah said Ambassador Boakai possesses those characteristics that are embedded in the PUP vision for a better Liberia.
Ambassador Boakai was gowned symbolizing that he is the standard bearer of the People’s Unification Party.
For his part, Vice President Boakai who accepted the endorsement said he is in this race because he believes the people of Liberia deserve to live better life. He said Liberia has very little to show for its old age adding that it is about time the leadership work harder to bring about development that will commensurate with our country’s age.
The PUP Primaries and extra-ordinary convention brought together hundreds of delegates from the 15 political subdivisions of Liberia. The Primaries elected people who will be contesting on the party’s tickets for the posts of representatives throughout the country.
