A stalwart of the former ruling National Patriotic Party is calling on Bomi County Senator Sando Johnson to resign.
NPP former Assistant Secretary General for Administration, Press, Information and Propaganda, Eric Kennedy said, the recent secret audio recording involving the Bomi County Senator is damaging and embarrassing to the country.
Senator Johnson can be clearly heard on a recently leaked secret audio recording concocting a deal with a businessman to embezzle several million United States Dollars of money intended to develop Liberia’s rubber industry.
Mr. Kennedy described Senator Johnson’s assertion on the tape that people can eat government’s money and nothing can happen as preposterous and shameful.
The Senator must do the most honorable thing by resigning from the Senate to save the integrity of that body and to restore investors’ confidence in the country’s struggling economy, Kennedy said.
“The culture of impunity undermines the fabric of our nation and should not continue to persist.”
Mr. Kennedy wants the Liberian Senate to expel Senator Johnson if he refuses to resign, a measure he said, would serve as a deterrence to public officials who take unrestrained pleasure in violating public trust.
