Liberia’s third oldest church in the order of establishment, the First Presbyterian Church, on Sunday May 27 at a colorful ceremony, honored one of its Elders, Madam Matilda Wokie Parker as Mother of the Year 2018/2019 thus becoming the 24th woman of that church to have been selected as Mother since 1993.
The Church also honored six other women who are continuously playing exemplary roles in the various sectors of the Liberian society ranging from Law, Business, City Planning, and Education to Religion as Leading Women. They included Cllr Pearl Brown-Bull, Barkue Tubman-Zawolo, Cyvette Gibson, Comfort Ola Agwu –a Nigerian assigned at the West African Examinations Council’s Office in Monrovia, Odell Johnson and Siah Koffeh.
The Mother of the Year lauded the church for what she described as “priceless recognition” adding, “I am humbled, but grateful to God”. She welcomed the honors bestowed on the selected Leading Women. “Each one of you has an intriguing, but powerful story”, she said.
Madam Matilda was last year, 2017, named by the same Church, where she has been member from birth, as Special Mother. Prior to that in December 2014, the Church ordained her Deacon and Elder.
