The National Elections Commission (NEC) says its official tabulation and subsequent release of preliminary election results will commence today December 27, 2017 in the Capital Monrovia.
Cllr. Jerome Korkoya told news conference Tuesday that tallying will begin tomorrow.
“The counting will be undertaken under full view of all competing political parties’s agents and international elections observers by tomorrow Dec. 27. The tabulating of results will commence and the NEC will release provisional results as they arrive,” Cllr. Korkoya said.
“The Commission is the only institution that has the authority to release elections results. The Commission calls on both political parties competing in the runoff election to refrain from declaring a result until the official results are released,” Korkoya warned.
The election was conducted peacefully without major incident report, Korkoya told reporters.
He said while it is true the nationwide voting process was considered smooth, there were small number of incidents reported but was dealt with on the spot in most of the cases if not all.
For instance, he said, a voter was arrested with two ballot papers and the police nabbed said individual and is undergoing investigation for his reported action.
“There was one of our contractors or poll workers who disclosed his political choice on social media. He was immediately removed and also undergoing appropriate investigation” he said.
