Riot Police in Monrovia yesterday lay siege to the residence of Grand Cape Mount County Senator Cllr. Varney Sherman in an attempt to effect an arrest for his alleged involvement in a bribery scandal reported by Global Witness.

The police were said to have deployed as early as 5:00 around the compound of the accused.

Senator Sherman has repeatedly said that he would not submit to the Fonati Koffa led- Presidential Task Force–mandated to investigate all persons named in the Global Witness report—as to do so would be self incriminating.

A Sheriff from the court was seen by our reporter in possession of what was believed to be a search warrant and a writ of arrest to be served on Cllr. Sherman.

Personnel of the Liberia Anti Corruption Commission (LACC) were  also seen in their numbers at home of Cllr. Sherman.
